MIPALLOY

A name synonymous with the production & supply of High Conductivity Coppers in India & abroad, now offers powder metallurgy products manufactured in its ultra modern state of art factory. Manufacture of Tungsten Copper & other sintered materials is a natural augmentation to its primary business of Chromium Copper & Beryllium Copper. Synergy in application of these materials has now made Mipalloy an undisputed leader in several fields of engineering including electrical, automobile, metallurgy & fabrication.

COPPER TUNGSTENS

This family of unique composite materials consists of tungsten combined with copper. The refractory metals are insoluble in copper. They do not form alloys & cannot be made by conventional melting & casting methods. Instead they are made by powder metallurgy techniques. Certain complex geometries such as multiple angles, steps, radii & combination of these shapes can be incorporated into the die tooling & pressed into the part.

Mipalloy engineers stand ready to assist in the design & selection of your materials. Modern metallurgical, chemical, electrical & destructive test facilities provide any additional design or problem solving assistance that you may require.

ELECTRICAL CONTACT MATERIALS

The high Electrical & thermal conductivity of Copper are combined with the arc-resistant & non-welding properties of Tungsten or their carbides to form an extensive series of compositions each designed to give the best performance for your particular application. These materials are used for such heavy duty contact applications as:

  • Circuit breakers, air & oil immersed
  • Arcing tips or arc runners
  • Make & break contacts
  • Heavy duty conductors, relays & switches.

They excel in these applications because they withstand the effects of the arcing incident to the interruptions of large current. Tungsten has the highest strength & melting temperature of the refractory metals. This is the principal factor determining the contacts resistance to arc erosion & mechanical wear. The strength, erosion & weld characteristics of the contact increase with increasing tungsten content, however the electrical & thermal characteristics decrease with the increasing refractory content.

Mipalloy engineering assistance is available on request. We will analyze your application & recommend sintered materials to suit your requirements. We can often suggest design revisions that may improve the performance of the product & reduce your costs.

EDM & ECM ELECTRODES

Tungsten Copper bimetals are used most economically as electrodes in Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) & Electro-Chemical Machining (ECM). The spark erosion characteristics & good electron emission characteristics of these sintered products make them excellent EDM electrode materials. They have excellent wear resistance, good material removal rates & the ability to retain good detail. They are particularly suited for machining Tungsten Carbides as other electrode materials may be inadequate. Tungsten Copper is used for ECM electrodes because it conducts high current & resists deformation & abrasion from the high velocity movement of the electrolyte.

RESISTANCE WELDING

High hardness & high strength at elevated temperatures and good electrical & thermal conductivities make these materials particularly suited for resistance welding electrodes. Mipalloy, a giant, in the line of resistance welding has been a pioneer in the development of this trade in India. Mipalloy manufactures composite electrodes comprising a construction of Tungsten Copper facings & inserts vacuum Silver brazed to Chromium Copper or Beryllium Copper shanks. Tungsten Copper is recommended for use as flash & butt welding die inserts, spot welding of Copper, Brass, Stainless Steel & Nickel. Tungsten is extremely hard with low ductility. It is suited for cross wire welding of Copper & Brass. Molybdenum is not as hard as Tungsten & can be machined & drilled to fit parts.

BORING BARS & GRINDING QUILLS

The standard for vibration free machining & grinding has been established by our chatter free materials. It is used where rigidity & minimum vibration are critical. Heavier cuts, longer tool life & a better finish result when using our chatter free materials. Tool extensions having L/D of 9:1 are possible depending on diameters. Tools run cooler because of higher thermal conductivity & one directly braze to material without affecting its physical properties. Our chatter free materials better suited because it has a higher density, is readily machinable, less prone to chipping & breakage & both material & finishing costs are less.

RADIATION SHIELDING

Tungsten alloys are used for radioactive source containers, gamma radiography shields, shielding in cancer therapy machines & syringe protection for radioactive injections. It is stable at high temperatures & 1/3 less material than lead can be used for same energy absorption effectiveness. Mipalloy high Tungsten alloys are used wherever radioactivity has to be controlled & directed.
